GTak with Kontakt 4 Sample player

Postby Kodnef on Tue Feb 02, 2010 5:05 pm

Wow - where have I been?
After much time trying to program my BlueChip Axon 100 with Kontakt 4 player I ran across Gtak
I'll download it an try it later. But a couple of questions

I have Kontakt 4 Player with Garritan GPO, Jazz and Big Band, and a few other libs - is this OK? I can understand the samples not being stretched to fill out the note range. Other than that can I use these sample libs I've already got? (I like them)

My Axon is an older Axon 100 SB Type B as seen here:
http://www.axon-technologies.net/module ... &artid=105

It can only be programmed via the front panel and sysex - OK right?
I don't like the SB sounds (well most of them) So I'd like ot use Kontakt and GPO and JABB instead.

The up/down buttons on the guitar don't work with Gtak? I don't have use of my feet.
I suppose I can get a pad controller or something to send the 0 or 127 notes to change instruments.

I'll try a download in the next couple of days. It sure looks like a cool product!

Oh, I'm on Win7 64bit, but have not problem running 32bit

thanks,
Kodnef

Your hardware sounds fine, but to run Gtak4 you need the full version of Kontakt4, it won't work with Kontakt Player based instruments - unfortunately Native Instruments have locked down those instruments so you can't add scripts like Gtak to them.

If you do have the full version of Kontakt4 then you might be able to use Gtak with GPO etc, but I can't be sure as I haven't tried it. I was going to try and get Gtak working with all that nice Garitan stuff, but now they've stopped producing Kontakt based instruments and started using their own player technology (ARIA).

Well keep up the good work.
I can't afford Kontakt 4 right now. So no GTak for me.
I think it's best you shy away from the Aria Player. It's only going to be a small niche market now. Garritan bought gigastudio and I bet they come out with something entirely different anyhow.

But I do think you ought to try as many third part Kontakt libs as possible.
It might at least give me the extra incentive to buy Kontakt
Maybe talk NI into packaging a special midi guitar version of Kontakt Player preloaded with GTak for a fair price - that'd would be excellent.

Does GTak work with third-party libraries in Kontakt 4, or does it only work for the Kontakt Library?

Edit: I just read in another thread/post that GTak can be used with homemade libraries (chapter 9 of the manual).
Would this be difficult for someone who knows nothing about Kontakt scripting?

The only tricky part about using Gtak with other Kontakt instrument is that Kontakt scripts can interfere with each other. This will not be a problem if you have a homemade instrument that does not use scripting. However, if you have a 3rd party instrument that uses extensive scripting you might find that these scripts break Gtak and need to be modified (which might not be possible if the developer locked their scripts).
